Snap Shots Disabled

Written by Troy on 01/02/08 Filed under: Making Money, Google Adsense, News, ill-advised, Addons and Widgets

Snap Shots, the online company that brought you the popup website preview, began a revenue sharing program a couple of months ago that can’t be turned off. While I’m no enemy of advertising and believe it can provide quality products, I think popups of any kind are a waste of screen space and visitors time. For this reason, I’m removing their JavaScript code from every page of this blog. As for the revenue sharing system, it appears to be a good opportunity for publishers who have a different kind of site where they wouldn’t interfere as much. You can find the sig-up form here.

If you’d still like to have the Snap Shots experience at the Free Website Project, you can download a browser extension at Snap.com. I haven’t personally tired it, so let me know how you like it!

Troy,

Sorry to hear you are removing Snap Shots but naturally that's your call. I just want to clarify what seems to be a misunderstanding re: the "sharing" schema.

Snap Shares is a program for "sharing Snap Shots impressions". Your share of the impressions (what you select in your Snap Shots Account) will display in a mix of other ads displayed by Snap, but your ad impressions are yours and if your users click on them the revenue is all yours.

In other words: With Snap Shots on your site, there is *additional inventory generated*. Your (snap) share of that inventory is yours and we don't take a cut of that.

Cheers.

Thank you for that comment! I seem to have misunderstood how this system works, and I can see that it might be very helpful to some webmasters to have these types of ads. Unfortunately, I'm still not sure that they're right for my current site design.

I'd still recommend Snap Shots to people who are looking for a sleek widget for their site and don't mind the ads, though!
